Saturday Basketball Recap…..SC, Mt Vernon, Centralia & MD Earn Wins

The SC Cougars and Sandoval Blackhawks had their highly anticipated game Saturday that was supposed to be played at Hoosier Gym in Knightsville, Indiana, but due to the pending bad weather forecasted they moved it to Gary Shirley Court in Farina. South Central improved to 10-4 with their 63-50 victory. Sophomore Westin Neilson led SC with 20, Callaway Smith added 12 and Jalen Smith finished with 10. Trayton Adams led Sandoval with 16 and Drew Gore added 10.

The Mt Vernon Rams are all alone atop the South 7 Conference at 3-0 following their 66-44 win over Cahokia. That coupled with Marion’s loss at Centralia leaves the Rams as the only league unbeaten. Trevor McCluer led the Rams with 23, Dave Barnes & Brogan Holloway finished with 13 each and Cale Mauer added 10.

The Orphans improved to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the South 7 after knocking off Marion in a showdown 49-43. The Orphans trailed by a point after three quarters but came back to defend their home court. Marion falls to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the league.  Archie Goeway led Centralia with 14 points, while Ethan Simmons paced Marion with 16 points.

Mater Dei fell to Camp Point Central 55-46. Ottenschnieder led the Knights with 13 and Koerkenmeier added 8. The Knights fall to 12-5 on the season while CPC improves to 16-2.
