Salem City Attorney Matt Wilzbach.

The City of Salem has a new City Attorney.

City Manager Annette Sola has appointed Matt Wilzbach to the position effective January 1st.

Wilzbach served as Marion County State’s Attorney for 12 years and is currently in private practice.  Before becoming State’s Attorney Wilzbach served as Village Attorney for Odin and Patoka and was also attorney for Salem Township Hospital.

Wilzbach has entered into a one-year contract for the position.  He wants to determine the workload and how it fits into the rest of his practice.   Wilzbach says a new city manager is expected to be hired early this summer and will also give him a chance to work with the new manager to see if they are compatible.

Wilzbach replaces Mike Jones who served in the position for more than 40 years.   He resigned at the end of December when he closed his law practice.

Wilzbach will be introduced at Monday night’s city council meeting.
