A 65-year-old rural Noble man has died after a tractor he was driving ran into a ditch after he was apparently already unresponsive from a medical issue.

Clay County Coroner Bryce Henry pronounced Donald Herdes deceased in the emergency room of the Clay County Hospital in Flora.

Henry believes Herdes was traveling northbound on Hurricane Creek Road in rural Clay City when he suffered a natural cause medical event causing him to go unresponsive.   The tractor continued down the road for a short distance before going off into the ditch and eventually hitting a power pole causing the lines to partially come down on the tractor.   Henry says Herdes was found unresponsive in the tractor around 10:40 Sunday morning by emergency responders.

Responding agencies included the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County EMS, Clay City Fire Protection District, and the Clay County Coroner’s Office.
