The Marion County Board will meet in special session Monday night.

Three topics are on the agenda.

The board will be asked to review and give final approval to its Fiscal Year 2025 budget that is a month overdue.   The board will learn if county officials were able to cut enough from the budget in meetings last Tuesday to eliminate the deficit.   Sheriff Kevin Cripps found a missing revenue item in his budget that shaved a considerable amount off the deficit.  The county’s budget consultant, Bell Weather, entered the changes in the tentative budget after the last meeting in preparation for final budget approval.

The board will also be asked to increase the amount of money in the animal control fund.  The county ended its contract to hold its dogs at the Centralia Animal Pound.   The newly reorganized board is going back to Centralia and Salem to see if there is a way the county can work with them.  The board is also looking at constructing their own animal control facility.

The board is scheduled to discuss a resolution and ordinance to create a Veteran’s Assistance Commission.   The county has been approached about creating the commission which is included in state statue.

The meeting begins at six Monday night in the third-floor courtroom at the courthouse.
