A kitchen fire caused significant damage to a home in Salem Mobile Home Park at 1700 North Broadway late Sunday night.
Salem Fire Protection District officials say Jacob Miller and Keaden Lucas were in bed when they discovered the fire after being woke up by their dog. They all escaped safely.
The fire apparently started from a pot left on the stove and caused heavy damage to the kitchen area. There was smoke and water damage to the rest of the home. Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton say they kept the fire from burning through the roof so it might be able to be rehabilitated.
Salem Firemen had mutual aid from Odin Firemen on the scene, but cancelled Kell Firemen who were on the way after getting a quick knockdown.
The fire call came in around 11 Sunday night. Firemen were on the scene for about an hour.
