The Centralia Holiday Tournament kicked off yesterday with the host Orphans and Mt Vernon both earning wins. In the opening game of the day, the Rams knocked off a very good Chatham Glenwood team 42-37 in overtime to advance to the quarterfinals today at 12:45 against Chicago Dyett after their beat down of Miami Southridge 68-45. Dave Barnes led the Rams with 18 points, Cale Mauer finished with 7 points and 12 rebounds.
The Orphans left no doubt early as they destroyed Chicago King in their first round game 41-14. The Orphans will take on Champaign Central in the quarterfinals tonight at 7:45 after their 60-52 win over Harding in last night’s final game. Devin Meier led the Orphans with 11, Michael Organ added 8.
Also yesterday, Evanston beat Chicago Bogan 76-41, Alton 61-37 over Overton, Cardinal Ritter beat Belleville West 63-33 and Marist over Cahokia 85-40.
