Salem Sweeps Wood River On Mega Day With Trio Of Running Clocks

The Salem Wildcats snapped their losing skid with a dominant 74-34 win at home over Wood River on Mega Day.  Noah Nix led the way with 22 points.  Miking Ettress finished with 15 as Salem also got 8 each from Kaeden Bevolo and Ryegan Warren.  Salem enters the Christmas break at 2-9 as they prepare for the Duster Thomas Tournament on Friday when they open with Jerseyville.

 

The Salem Lady Cats also snapped their short losing skid and got back to over .500 on the year at 7-6 with their 64-21 victory.  Salem put 10 in the scoring column led by Jordan Kessler with 15 and Emma Gregg with 12.  Shelby Johnson played great defensively and also scored 8 points.  The Lady Cats will open up the Benton Tournament on Friday when they take on Mt Zion.

 

The Salem JV opened the day with a dominant 83-21 victory.  After allowing 16 points in the opening quarter, the Salem defense clamped down allowing just 5 the rest of the game.  Salem was led by Avery Gullion with 19.  Cory Keele added 9 with 8 from Landen Maxey and 7 each from Carter Lowe, Riley Tate and Caeden Miraglia.

 

In other boys action Saturday, Althoff beat Mt Vernon 67-49 with 25 from Dierre Hill Jr.  Breese Central kept rolling beating Auburn 63-51, Freeburg lost to Herrin 62-54, Nashville nipped Carterville 47-44.

 

Also in girls hoops Saturday, Carlyle beat Flora 63-18, Columbia over Gibault 49-26, Marion beat Harrisburg 78-67, Nashville routed Carterville 85-12.
