A Mt. Vernon home received substantial damage in a Saturday morning fire.
Mt. Vernon City Firemen say they responded to 2418 College Street for a fire that started in a detached garage and was spreading to the nearby home. The garage was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival. The fire had moved to an attic bedroom, which was destroyed. There was also considerable water and smoke damage downstairs.

Firemen cleared the scene around 9:30 am.
