A Jefferson County Jury found a 37-year-old Mt. Vernon man guilty of attempted murder and other charges in connection with an October incident where three people were shot.
The jury deliberated about two hours before finding Timothy Boyd guilty of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. He faces 31 years to life on the attempted murder conviction and six to 30 years on the two aggravated battery convictions when sentenced on February 20th. The prosecution filed a notice of intent to seek consecutive sentences on all three convictions.
Another count of armed habitual criminal was severed and will be tried at a later date.
The case was tried by State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun and Assistant Blake Jennings.
Mt. Vernon Police developed Boyd as a suspect when investigating the shooting of three people in the area of the 1100 block of Lamar on October 12th. The three victims had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and were transferred to St. Louis Hospitals for treatment.
Five days after the shooting, Boyd was located and apprehended without incident at a hotel in Carlyle by the US Marshals Task Force and accompanied by Mt. Vernon Police detectives.
A second person was arrested at the hotel. 38-year-old Myleika Whitelow was charged with aiding/concealing a fugitive.
