Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says a fire at the Dave and Becky Pickett home in the 9300 block of Quant Road in rural Iuka was confined to a rear wall.
Eagan says the Pickett’s woke up when hearing a smoke detector sounding and found the fire near the door to the rear patio. The fire chief reports the fire appears to have started in the wiring inside the wall. The Pickett’s put out most of the fire with a fire extinguisher and put water on the fire until firemen arrived.
Eagan says the fire melted siding around the door. They removed smoke from the home.
Iuka initially called Salem, Kell, and Kinmundy-Alma for mutual aid, but cancelled them when arriving on the scene and finding the fire mostly out.
The fire call came in around two Friday morning.
