Marion County ESDA Coordinator Sheri Barter honored three of her long-time members at Tuesday’s county board meeting.   Barter presented plaques to 47-year member Greg Masters, 40-year member Denny Wilkinson and 21-year member Edie Masters.   She noted while the agency is best known for helping to park vehicles at events, they also spend many hours helping the sheriff’s department and others control traffic at accident and fire scenes.

The county board appointed Dr. Michael Douglas as their representative on the Marion County Health Department Board.

The new chair of the building committee, Deb Reed, asked that the proposed purchase of a generator and UPS equipment be pulled off the agenda and sent back to committee so the new members could learn more about the project.   While funding the project through a loan has drawn criticism Reed announced Circuit Clerk Tiffany Schicker is attempting to find grant money to pay for the work.

Marion County Interim Highway Superintendent Marilee Snow reported new bridges on the Range and Kline Roads are now both 85-percent complete.  Both roads have been closed since the original bridges failed.

The board approved joining the South Central Illinois Regional Planning Commission for another year at a cost of $5,554.

Board Chair Steve Whritenour set the one time a month county board meeting for the fourth Tuesday of each month with committees meeting each month ahead of the full board meeting.

Sheriff Kevin Cripps noted there are currently 73 inmates in the Marion County Jail, including 43 being held for the US Marshall’s service.
