The Marion County Board will be asked at its next meeting to hire a forensic auditor to figure out the county’s fiscal problems.
Board Chair Steve Whritenour feels there is something wrong that there are continual delays in getting the 2022 audit done. The board was told Tuesday night the completion date has been moved back another month to January. That audit has to be finished before the 2023 and 2024 audits can be completed.
Board member Brock Waggoner also raised questions about audit notes dating back to 2016 about the lack of oversight over the budget.
Finance Committee Chair Chris Krupp noted that finding is something all small units of government face due to lack of staff.
Krupp also noted that the auditor, Wifly, has been contacting county offices still obtaining material needed to complete the 2022 audit.
