A 25-year-old Atlanta, Georgia man has been arrested following a high speed chase and crash on I-64 and I-57.
Sadarius Turner was eventually taken into custody for Reckless Driving and Aggravated Fleeing and Attempting to Elude by the arresting Jefferson County Deputy. He’s also wanted on eleven felony fraud warrants out of the state of Virginia.
Turner was initially sought when fleeing a felony traffic stop on I-64 near the 56 mile marker in Washington County. Jefferson County deputies positioned on I-57 near the 95-exit in Mt. Vernon and made contact with the suspect vehicle heading southbound at a high rate of speed.
An attempt was made to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 MPH, weaving in and out of traffic, including using the shoulders.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reports about two miles south of the Benton exit on I-57, the suspect vehicle struck multiple vehicles, went off the west side of the interstate, and crashed.
One suspect, the passenger, was taken into custody at the crash site, and the driver fled on foot west into the woods. The passenger was transported to SSM Good Samaritan Hospital for evaluation and treatment for non-life-threatening injuries prior to being taken to the Justice Center. The passenger was released at the conclusion of the investigation.
Turner was apprehended by a Johnston City officer in their jurisdiction at about two Thursday afternoon. After being treated for injuries related to the crash at a Williamson County medical facility, Turner was transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center.
The Illinois State Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, West City Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Franklin County EMA responded to assist at the crash site and search for Turner. ISP handled the crash investigation, which led to the identification of 3 different vehicles Turner struck while trying to evade apprehension. No one struck by Turner’s vehicle reported being injured.
