The Salem Recreation Department is planning a big weekend to celebrate the Christmas season.
Recreation Director Jed Casburn says activity begins Friday night from six to eight pm.
“We’ve got the Christmas Carnival at the Salem Community Activity Center,” Casburn said. “We welcome all the families in our community and outside our community to come in and enjoy a free meal. We’ve got games, businesses and organizations putting on some games, so come out and have a good time. We’ve got crafts, I know that’s a popular one. Keep Salem Beautiful will be there with the crafts, and we’ve also got some face painting in that area.”
Casburn says activity then resumes Saturday afternoon downtown with Christmas on Broadway in the 100 block of South Broadway.
“We’re going to have food trucks. We’ll have a hot chocolate and s’mores station at the ABC pub. We’ll have movies starting at 1:30, we’ll have Mrs. Claus at the historical museum, caroling by our SCHS choir. Santa shows up at 3:45 and we’ll be getting some pictures and a toy giveaway on Sweney Corner.”
The movie schedule includes Rudolph at 1:30, Frosty the Snowman at 2:30 and Charlie Brown Christmas at 3:15.
