The large Marion County third floor courtroom was standing room only as Salem Township Republicans had several contests in the Tuesday night caucus.
In the race for road commissioner, Joe Telford beat Curtis Rollins 64 to 30.
There were contests for all four township board positions. The winners were Jim Purcell, Wayne Walker, Marvin Owens, and Jim Cripps. Township Supervisor David Coryell and Clerk Gary Purcell did not face any competition.
For the first trustee position, Purcell beat Tony Smith 66 to 35. For the second trustee position, Walker beat Karma Dunham 60 to 42. For the third seat, Owens collected 45 votes. Raymond Brubaker had 29, Smith 14, and Dunham 12. For the fourth trustee position, Cripps finished with 49 votes, followed by Brubaker with 31 and Dunham with 15.
The Salem Township Democrats only caucused two onto the ballot for trustee. They are Connie Graham and Jim Bryant. Barbara Jackson-Bailey was nominated for tax assessor. The Republicans had no candidate for tax assessor.
