Downtown Salem will look even more like Christmas following two programs currently underway.

The Daffy Dill Garden Club and Keep Salem Beautiful are holding a contest to decorate the downtown flower planters while Michelle Barbee is heading a program to get downtown merchants to decorate the windows of their stores.   Both have selected the same theme ‘Frosty the Snowman’.

The deadline for participants in the plant competition to complete their work was Saturday.   Judging will be on December 13th, with winners announced on December 16th.  The top prize is $500, with a $300 second prize and a $200 third prize.

Any building owner or renter with windows that face Main or Broadway within three blocks of the intersection of both streets is invited to participate.  Anyone who wishes to enter the contest is asked to contact Barbee via Facebook Messenger or email no later than December 7th.  Barbee’s e-mail address is mlbarbee@hotmail.com.

Participants in the contest are responsible for decorating their windows with paint, a display, or any other kind of art form in keeping with the theme.

Entered windows should be completed before the December 13th and 14th judging days.  Winners will be announced on December 16th for first, second, and third place, as well as a People’s Choice Award which will be voted on via Facebook.
