The Salem Wildcats controlled their Capital Classic game with Mt Carmel after a rough offensive first quarter for both teams, as they would pull away to win 51-35. Salem outscored the Aces 19-5 in the final quarter and was 16-of-25 from the free throw line. Noah Nix finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds, Ryegan Waren added 10 points and Ayden Rose added 7 points and 9 rebounds. Salem bounced back after falling in their opener to Lawrenceville 50-38. In the loss, Nix had 12 points and 9 rebounds. Salem is 1-1 and will take on Teutopolis who also split games yesterday beating Mt Carmel 76-25 and falling last night to the hosts 52-39. The winner of Salem/TTown will play in tonight’s 6pm 3rd place game, with the loser playing at 4:30 for 5th place.
Also yesterday at the Red Hill location, Olney beat Red Hill 59-45 and lost to Vincennes Lincoln 60-30. The Alices also beat Fairfield 67-39 while Fairfield split beating Red Hill 59-42.
The Centralia Orphans will play in the finals of the Roxana Hoopsgiving Tournament after winning their semifinal yesterday over Staunton 51-24. They will play at 6pm against East St. Louis after their 61-35 win over Southwestern. In the Silver Bracket, Civic Memorial and Carbondale play in the 5th place finals with Marquette and Gateway Legacy for 7th place. In the Bronze Bracket, Freeburg and Roxana will play for 9th place and Wood River plays Jerseyville for 11th.
The 50th Christopher Tournament trophy games are today. At 12:30 its Thompsonville and Zeigler Royalton playing for 7th place. That will be followed at 2pm with the consolation finals with Webber and Patoka/Odin. New Athens will play Marissa/Coulterville for 3rd place at 3:30 and then the 5:30 title game will feature Christopher and Waltonville.
The South Central Cougars will play in the 3rd place game this afternoon at the Mulberry Grove Tournament after falling to Father McGivney last night 47-46. Turnovers doomed SC in the loss. They were led by sophomore Westin Neilson who scored 15, Seth Bergmann added 12 and Brody Markley finished with 10. The Cougars will get the host Aces at 4:30 followed by Maryville Christian and McGivney in the finals. The day begins with Mt Olive and Ramsey at 1:30 for 7th place and then St Elmo/Brownstown plays Lebanon in the 5th place game at 4:30. Last night Mulberry Grove beat Brownstown 66-61 and Lebanon over Ramsey 80-59.
Sandoval will play for the Elverado title after their 60-42 win over Pope County last night. Trayton Adams led the Blackhawks with 15, Quinton Heinzmann and Josh Gordon added 11 with Drew Gore chipping in 9. They will play Crab Orchard at 4pm after their 71-66 win over Galatia. The day begins at 11:30 with Agape Christian and Elverado in the 7th place game, Cairo and Johnston City are in the consolation finals at 1, Galatia and Pope County play for 3rd at 2:30 before the championship.
At Cumberland today, Okaw Valley and Newton play at 1:30 for 7th, North Clay and Cumberland are in the consolation finals at 3, Marshall and Vandalia will play for 3rd place at 4:30 and Dieterich and Casey will play for the title at 6pm. Last night Casey advanced with a 49-45 win over Marshall and Dieterich knocked off Vandalia 65-48. Also in the consolation bracket last night, North Clay beat Okaw Valley 83-55 and Cumberland 48-44 over Newton.
The St Anthony Tournament last night saw Edwardsville rout Rantoul 76-48, Breese Central over Robinson 79-28, Champaign Central beat Mattoon 68-65 and St Anthony beat Effingham 59-42. Today is the final day that begins with Effingham and Robinson in the 7th place game at 3pm featuring former Robinson coach Mack Thompson who is in his first year as AD and Head Coach of Effingham taking on his former program. Rantoul and Breese Central are in the 5th place game at 4:30, St Anthony and Mattoon play for 3rd at 6 and then the championship will be Edwardsville and Champaign Central at 7:30.
At the Wesclin Tip Off last night, Wesclin beat Christ Our Rock 74-61 and Columbia over Mater Deui 61-38. Today the tournament concludes with Nashville and Mater Dei at 6 and then Columbia and Wesclin will play for the title at 7:30.
The Kaskaskian Classic held at Carlyle will open up today. The first game is at 3pm with Carlyle and Hillsboro followed by Pinckneyville and Riverview Gardens at 4:30, Greenville and Okawville play at 6 and Woodlawn and Flora will be in action at 7:30.
