Centralia High School Superintendent Chuck Lane says the district is keeping its promise and will not be extending a bond for further school construction activity.
The bond was initially issued to help pay for the new high school and was later extended to build the sports stadium.
Lane says the elimination of the bond will cover most of the cost of this year’s tax levy increase.
“The tax levy is 4.98 percent higher. However, with the bonds coming off once you take those off compared to what we paid before you’re looking at a quarter percent increase overall which should let our tax levy go down which should bring some welcome relief.”
The board agreed to use this year’s matching $50,000 state maintenance grant to paint the classrooms in the annex building this summer.
In personnel action, the board accepted resignations from special ed teachers Sophia Beggs and Megan Tate. The board also accepted a letter of resignation from Dawson Berry who was a technology specialist.
The board in lieu of expulsion placed a student in the Alternative Learning Academy for a second offense of having drugs and a vape on school property.
