Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says the county board cannot increase the tax levy without another vote.
Fox’s comments come after the Marion County Board’s Finance Committee indicated they wanted to add another one percent to the property tax levy to allow for the capture of new property that wasn’t included in the initial 3.4-percent levy increase.
Finance Committee Chair Chris Krupp indicated during a Thursday night meeting he had been told the change could be made without bringing the tax levy to another vote. The 3.4-percent tax levy was approved at the last full county board meeting after some in the audience pushed for no increase in the levy.
