Mater Dei To Play For State 2a Volleyball Title Today

The IHSA State Volleyball Tournaments are being held at the CEFCU Arena on the campus of Illinois State in Normal.

The defending 2a state champion Mater Dei got a 10-point run in the opening set and carried that moment over the second in their straight sets win over El Paso Gridley 25-16, 25-17. Avery Wuebbles, Avery Patton and Addie Nenninger each had 5 kills and Lauren Jamruk added 11 points.  Mater Dei is now 37-3 and will play Bloomington Central Catholic looking for their 9th state title.  BCC knocked off Timothy Christian in straight sets in the first semifinal.  The state title game is at 2pm following the 3rd place game that starts around 12:30.

The Apollo Conference will be represented in the 3a state title game as Mahomet Seymour advanced with a 25-18, 25-22 win over DePaul College Prep.  They will play at 5:30 tonight against Bartonville Limestone who knocked off Prairie Ridge in straight sets.  The 3a third place game starts at 4pm.

In 1a, Stockton beat Hartsburg in 3 sets to advance to today’s finals at 10:30 against Hardin Calhoun after their straight sets win over Cissna Park.  The 3rd place game opens the day at 9am.

In 4a, the 3rd place game is at 7:30 featuring Huntley against Lockport Township followed by the state title match at 9pm between Lisle Benet Academy and Chicago Marist.
