Nelson David Jones, 84, of Bonnie, Illinois, passed away at 9:23 a.m. on November 11, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 22, 1941, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, to the late Nelson and Opal (Grahlherr) Jones. David married Dolly Grace (Lorance) Jones on May 28, 1961. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children, David Wayne Jones and wife, Arlene (Taylor) of Pittsboro, Indiana, Bradley Alan Jones and wife, Sandra (Cook) of Bonnie, Illinois, and Terra Raejean (Jones) and husband, Kenneth Jones of Mascoutah, Illinois; grandchildren, Zephan Jones, Mattie (Joshua) Winter, Andrew (Linzy) Jones, Randy (Mica) Jones, Bethany (Cael) Yingling, Heather (Eric) Tyler, Joshua (Jamie) Jones, Ryan Jones, and Alexandria (Jon) Felty; eleven great-grandchildren; and niece, Rita McComas.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Jones; sisters, Dolena Bryan and Sophia Jones; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Noah Tyler; niece, Cynthia Rice; and brother-in-law, Floyd Bryan.

In 1958, while he was still in high school, David purchased the farm his family still lives on today. He had many job titles throughout his life. David worked on the railroad, was a farmer, an ordained minister, and an ATP Pilot for commuter airlines and corporate. He flew and trained several others over the years. David was a carpenter, welder, painter, and bricklayer. He built the house that he lived in with his beloved wife, Dolly. David will be remembered as a devoted husband, cherished father, treasured grandfather, loving great-grandfather, dear uncle, and friend to many.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home with Mr. Jon Cook and Mr. Tom Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in David’s honor to SSM Hospice.
