The Centralia City Council on Tuesday evening approved proposals for the city’s insurance coverage services, accepting a proposal from Illinois Counties Risk Management for liability insurance and the Illinois Public Risk Fund for workers’ compensation.
There were two options provided by Illinois Public Risk Fund for workers’ comp — a $966,400 proposal that includes no deductible, and an $826,720 option with a $50,000 deductible. City Manager Kory Smith notes that the $50,000 deductible option contains fewer up-front costs, but says that option would be less cost effective due to the number of claims the city typically sees each year.
The liability and workers’ comp coverage will be effective from December 1st of this year through December 1st, 2025.
In other action, the council approved a disbursement of just over $273,000 from Tax Increment Financing District 6 to Meadow Woods Holdings LLC, per an amended development agreement approved in August 2022. A disbursement of $15,637 from TIF District 6 to The Villas at Centralia Heritage Woods was also approved.
The council approved a Highway Authority Agreement with Ameren Illinois regarding property at 500 South Hickory Street which Ameren Illinois owns. The property formerly contained a coal gasification plant and transmission equipment, and Ameren has conducted cleanup of the site dating back to 2010. Smith says the resolution approved Tuesday addresses what he called “minor, non-substantive edits” to the agreement, which was executed in April 2023.
Council members also approved a request by the Downtown Christmas Stroll Committee to use the Illinois Theater for the Christmas Stroll on December 6th, and approved a request by the Salem High School Bass Fishing Team to use Raccoon Lake on April 19th and April 27th of next year for youth tournament events.
