Delores A. Goree, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, died at 11:16 pm Saturday, November 8, 2025, at her residence. She was born September 8, 1940, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Clifford and Lois (Wolfe) Hawkins. On January 15, 1958, in Mount Vernon, she married Robert E. Goree. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2014.
Delores is survived by her sons, Perri Vance Goree and significant other, Michele, Aaron Wade Goree and wife, Billie, and Rod Evan Goree and wife, Cheryl; grandchildren, Leah Winkleman, Allison Sucherman, Collin Goree, Cameron Greene, Conner Goree, and Amber Goree; great-grandchildren, Paxon and Dayton; brother, Ronnie Hawkins; sisters, Jeanie Harrison, Brenda Lawrence, and Jeanette Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
Delores had worked as a hairdresser for many years and was a member of Crossroads Church in Mount Vernon. She had worked alongside her husband, taking care of many rental properties. She enjoyed painting and was a very talented artist. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Andries Schalkwyk officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Delores’ honor to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter and will be accepted at the funeral home.
