The Salem Community Thanksgiving Dinner has been set for Saturday, November 16.
The dinner was created 8 years ago as a time for everyone in the community to share in a dinner.
One of the organizers for Saved with Amazing Grace Chris Watkins says they are preparing to serve 2,000 this year.
“A lot of kids have been coming out,” said Watkins. “Every year it’s been more and more, and we’d love to have them take a toy home. They’ll come to see Santa Claus, and they’ll get a toy.”
Watkins says they will be smoking 200 turkeys and all the fixings for the event. He reports donations would be appreciated to help defray the cost and can be made by calling the Apostolic Church. Drivers are also needed to help deliver about 1,000 of the meals. Some meals will also be sent to the Centralia Community Youth Center.
Watkins says along with the dinner, two collections are also underway in the community.
“We have the toy drive and the blanket drive as well,” he said. “We’ll be giving out blankets at the dinner. When you come pick up your dinner, you can pick up a blanket as well. Any blankets left over will be given out at the toy drive. We need blankets pretty quickly, and we’ll keep accepting them until the toy drive.”
The toy and blanket drop off donations may be left at Dollar General, Salem Township Hospital, Yardley Automotive, and 6/10 Coffee. A toy donation box will also be available at the Salem Walmart.
