A 13-year-old boy was injured when someone threw a Molotov cocktail onto his bed from an outside window of his home in the 600 block of South Locust Street in Centralia.
Centralia Fire Chief Jeff Day says the incendiary device went through a piece of cardboard covering the window and landed in the boy’s bed late Tuesday night. He sustained burns to his left forearm and left hand.
The boy’s father, Jerad Halstien, heard the commotion and went into the bedroom and found the fire on the bed. He used a pitchers of water to douse the flames.
Firemen say the fire was out on their arrival. They had to removed smoke from the bedroom.
The juvenile was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The two adults and three other children in the home were not injured.
Due to the injury, the State Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate as well as Centralia Police. Police later called in the State Police crime scene investigation unit.
Police report no arrests have been made, but they do have suspects.
The incident was reported at 11:34 Tuesday evening.
