More than four inches of rain have been recorded across most of Marion County along with parts of Clinton and Washington Counties. As a result, flooding is occurring in low-lying areas and many sections of low-lying roads are underwater Tuesday morning. The threat of additional rain on Tuesday has resulted in a flood watch remaining in effect until noon Tuesday.
The City of Salem has kept an evacuation request in place for the Starlight Mobile Home Park because of fears additional rain could quickly cause water levels to rise in Town Creek. The Salem Reservoir peaked at 15 inches over the spillway on Monday, just three inches below when a flood watch is issued. However, the city acted early in going door to door in the mobile home park and advising residents it would be wise to leave when the water level was approaching the skirting on a few of the homes. The Salem Water Plant reports as of seven Tuesday morning, water was running only 4.6 inches over the spillway into Town Creek below.
There has been one water rescue as a result of a vehicle driving into the flood waters on West Line Road near Texas Lane in rural Odin. Odin Firemen report the car stalled in about an inch and a half of water around six Tuesday morning. They used a brush truck to drive up to the car and move the driver into the truck to get her to safety.
Salem Township Road Commissioner Joe Telford reports all roads in the Crooked Creek Bottoms are flooded including Robin, South College, South Hotze, South Hoots Chapel, and Westline Road.
Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps reports all roads in the Skillet Fork Bottoms in rural Iuka are flooded and impassable.
The Centralia Water Treatment Plant reports one gate of Raccoon Lake remains open five feet to get rid of excess water, flooding Brick Hill Road downstream.
The Salem Water Treatment Plant has recorded 4.25 inches of rain from the storm system so far, including 3.25 inches in the 24-hour period ending at seven Tuesday morning. The Centralia Water Plant has recorded a total of 4.55 inches of rain, including 2.8 inches in the 24-hour period ending at seven Tuesday morning.
