The Salem Hardee’s Restaurant at West Main and College is closed until repairs can be made following a fire just before noon on Monday.

Salem Fire Chief Jim Cerny explains what happened.

“We have a roof leak that is leaking into some of the electrical components in the drop ceiling causing them to short out and create smoke.  We’re shutting off power and gas here. They will have to get the roof leak fixed and take care of their electrical issues.”

The initial call to 911 indicated there was a wall on fire.  Cerny says any flames were gone upon their arrival and they quickly eliminated the issue when turning off the electricity.   It is unclear how much damage there is to the electrical system.

The restaurant had been evacuated by employees before the arrival of emergency help.

Odin firemen provided mutual aid on the scene.
