On Saturday, the prep football season continued with the opening round of the IHSA playoffs.
Centralia dropped their 5a playoff opener to visiting Metamora 23-9. The Orphans took an early 9-0 lead, and led 9-7 at halftime before the Redbird would make a run late in the 2nd half. Xavier Koch caught a touchdown pass for the only TD for Centralia. The Orphans season ends at 6-4.

In 2a, Chester beat Westville 40-35, Johnston City over Red Bud 46-13, Quincy Notre Dame beat Flora 49-6 and Warrensburg beat Carmi 35-30.
In 3a, Greenville beat Fairfield 48-6, Monticello over DuQuoin 49-20, Nashville beat Stanford Olympia 42-35, Benton beat New Berlin 48-7 and Tolono Unity over Roxana 44-31.
In 4a, Breese Central beat Harrisburg 42-7, Olney over Kewanee 41-14 and Waterloo nipped Taylorville 33-30.
In 6a, East St Louis dominated Springfield High 67-0.
The high school football playoffs will continue this weekend in the 2nd round.
In 6a, East St Louis will host Normal West.
In 5a, Morris will host Highland.
In 4a, Breese Central plays at Murphysboro, Waterloo hosts Cahokia and Olney will be at Normal.
In 3a on Saturday, Benton hosts Sullivan and Nashville hosts Greenville.
In 2a, Johnston City will host Warrensburg Latham, Maroa Forsyth is at home against Chester and Vandalia goes to Pana.
In 1a, Althoff goes to Carrollton, Casey Westfield is at Mt Sterling and Sesser Valier is at Hardin Calhoun.
