Kaskaskia Collage has announced the Nashville Education Center will be closed for the spring semester to allow for major repairs.
The college reports while repairs were being made from water damage in June 2023, additional structural deficiencies and element exposure issues were found. A comprehensive restoration effort is now required to ensure the long-term safety and functionality of the facility.
Since the storm, the building has remained operational, with classes and services continuing on-site while expert evaluations were conducted. Now that the scoope of the work is known, the decision was made to close the center on January 2nd, 2025 for the spring semester to allow uninterrupted construction to remedy the structural deficiencies.
The college reports they are working closely with individuals affect by the closure, coordinating plans to relocated classes and services to alternative locations or deliver them remotely. The goal is to keep the services in the Nashville area.
The cost of the needed work will not be known until after the November Kaskaskia College Board meeting when bids are expected to be accepted on the work.
