The Sandoval Colonial Golf Course held its 10th annual Trunk or Treat this past Friday night, October 18, drawing triple digit attendance. Jeff and Heather Day, owners of the course, along with Kaitlyn and Shaela Bates, sisters to Heather Day, organized the event, which continues to grow yearly. This year included 20 trunks and approximately 385 kids in attendance.

New this year, kids were asked to pick their favorite trunk. This year’s winner was Teresa Cain & Tosha McHenry with the theme Inside/Out. Coming in 2nd was Sandoval Grade school’s Ms. Missy Schlau with the Claw game theme. 3rd Place was friends of the Day Family.

Alongside Trunk or Treat, the first annual Haunted Hayride was put on by Colonial Golf Course and The Hiram Masonic Lodge #503. Nearly 230 kids came out to enjoy the Haunted Hayride. Jeff Wehking & Chris Oehmke provided the hayride with décor, lights & ideas, then groups such as the Sandoval & Odin Cheerleaders, Sandoval, Odin, Patoka Boys & Girls Golf, Patoka Trap Team, Sandoval CNA program, Sandoval Library provided the scary elements around the scenes. Jeanette Hodge brought an ice cream trailer with her new flavor of apple cider ice cream & homemade apple dumplings.

Members of Colonial and members of the lodge provided the tractors, trailers, straw, generators & manpower that was also needed to put the event together.

After the ride ended, people had a chance to vote for their favorite scary area. Sandoval Cheerleaders come in first with their Zombie Cheerleaders, followed by the Sandoval Library Witches Crew. The Sandoval Cheerleaders received a $100 donation from Colonial and the Masons for being the people’s choice.

Heather Day said, “As owner of a local business, being born & raised in Sandoval school district, I feel blessed to be able to give back to our community. As long as I’m here and God willing, I will continue to do what I can for our community and our kids.”
