State Police have released more details on a traffic crash that took the life of a 28-year-old State Trooper in Champaign County in east central Illinois.

Director Brendan Kelly reports Trooper Corey Thompsen was finishing a traffic enforcement detail when the driver of a truck pulled from a stop sign in front of his motorcycle.  A witness provided aid until first responders arrived and took Thompson to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck, 32-year-old Helen Torres of Thomasboro, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Torres was cited for failure to yield right of way at a stop intersection and no valid driver’s license-expired less than one year.

Kelly said this is a sad moment for Corey’s law enforcement brothers and sisters and his family.  Kelly noted this is the first, and hopefully, the last, a trooper who he administered the oath of an ISP officer is lost in a line of duty death.

Thompsen was 28 years old and served almost five years as an officer with ISP.  He is survived by his wife Chelsea, mother Susan, father Steve, and brothers.
