The Salem Grade School Board has hired its current Franklin Park Assistant Principal Marita Williams as the new Assistant Principal at Hawthorn Grade School. Williams will take over the position next school year as current Assistant Principal Melanie Becker is retiring at the end of the school year.
Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe told the school board Thursday night a search will now begin for a new Assistant Principal at Franklin Park.
Williams says she is incredibly grateful for the opportunities, support, and growth she has experienced in her current role as Assistant Principal at Franklin Park School, under the leadership of Principal Tyler Lux. She says after much reflection, she decided to pursue a new role as Assistant Principal at Hawthorn School that aligns with my long-term career goals of working with students in their early developmental years. Williams says she will do everything she can to ensure a smooth transition and feel so incredibly blessed to continue working at Salem School District 111 under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Foppe, Hawthorn Principal Marty Adams, and Lux.
In other action last night, the board approved new insurance policies for workers compensation and cyber liability. The packages through Imming Insurance of Carlyle and Dimond Brothers of Centralia will save the district more than $6,000 over their current carriers. However, there will still be an increase of just over $6,000 from the expiring policies.
The school board honored its 1st place in state boys’ baseball team and 2nd place girls’ softball team. Four third-grade students last year were honored for having scores in the ‘exceeds’ category in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness Test. They are Sam Cox, Matthew Asroff, Wyatt Jackson and Kara Young.
