Carlyle Snaps 13-match losing skid to Central With Regional Win

The regionals began yesterday for 1a soccer.  Carlyle snapped a 13-match losing skid to Breese Central and won a post season match for the first time since 2019 with a win at Breese in penalty kicks.  The match was 1-1 after regulation and 2 overtimes and the Indians would win 3-2 in PK’s.  Matthew Guthrie, Jackson Davison and Caden Lopeker had goals in the PK for Carlyle.  Guthrie also saved 2 PK’s.  Rainer Bretz and Kyle Wuebbels scored for Central.  Carlyle will take on top seed Mater Dei in the regional semifinals Friday at 6pm at Oerter Park in Columbia.

Also in regional quarterfinal play, Altamont beat Robinson 6-1, Piasa beat Wood River 3-1, Pana 9-0 over Vandalia.

Today in regional play, Pinckneyville plays at Vienna, Gibault hosts Valmeyer.
