On October 9, Kaskaskia College hosted its 24th annual pinning ceremony to honor the graduates of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DGMS) Program for the year 2023-2024. The event celebrated the accomplishments of six graduates in a ceremony attended by around 60 guests, including families from both the district and neighboring regions.
In addition to the pinning, the evening included special recognition for outstanding academic achievement. Lily Wilson of Vandalia received the prestigious Outstanding Student Award for her remarkable academic performance, achieving an impressive 97% average in the program’s rigorous 50-credit-hour curriculum.
The DGMS program at Kaskaskia College spans 3 ½ semesters and equips students with foundational knowledge in physics, abdominal, obstetrical, and gynecological ultrasonography. The program also emphasizes the development of practical scanning skills essential for producing high-quality diagnostic images. Clinical experiences, provided through partnerships with numerous sites across the district, joint districts, and the St. Louis area, are integral to the program’s success. All six graduates have shared their excitement about securing prospective job opportunities in the field, with many already working in radiology departments.
