A fire damaged a Salem home late Sunday afternoon.
The fire was at a home rented by Jimmy Butler at 514 South Pearl Street.
Salem Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Bill Fulton says they were called when smoke could be seen coming from the attic.
“We had smoke from the attic area, and we were having a hard time figuring out where it was at, because the house has multiple levels,” Fulton said. “We cut a couple of holes in the roof, found that the fire was over this porch area. We pulled the ceiling in the porch area, exposed an active fire and extinguished that fire.”
Fulton says the fire is believed to be electrical in nature. Because it was confined to the attic, there was no smoke damage.
The fire call came in around four Sunday afternoon with firemen on the scene for about an hour.
Odin provided mutual aid on the scene while Kell Firemen stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
