Centralia City Manager Kory Smith has announced they have renewed the municipal electricity aggregation program that will bring lower electric rates to participants beginning with the December 2024 meter read date.

Since February 2023, Centralia residents and small businesses have been paying $0.1220 from their current supplier Constellation Energy.  The new contract will be with Homefield Energy which previously supplied the city.  The new rate will be $0.09054 which equates to a $0.03146 decrease per kilowatt hour.    The city says the savings for an average account using 800 kilowatt hours will amount to over $25 of monthly savings for those accounts currently participating in the aggregation program. The delivery rate also will change from the higher summer rate period to the lower non-summer rate period which will result in additional savings.

Unlike previous contracts for the aggregation program, the city along with its consultant Good Energy have deliberately secured the new rate for a short period of time due to the uncertainty in the energy market.  The new shorter program that begins in December will continue through May 2025 when another new contract is negotiated.

Residents do have a way to opt out at anytime without penalty if the account holder desires.  An opt-out letter will be mailed to all eligible residents within the city starting October 11th.  If the account holder desires to continue participating in the program, then they need to do nothing with the opt out notice and they will be automatically enrolled.  If you wish to drop out, the letter will give you several options to do so.

Smith estimates residents of Centralia have saved nearly $1,300 during the life of the program that began over a decade ago.
