Wamac Police have arrested a 34-year-old Centralia man for armed robbery without a firearm in connection with an early morning incident on October first.

Reports indicate Joshua Benjamin of South Cherry had allegedly beat a 34-year-old homeless man with a pipe before stealing his wallet.  The incident occurred in Jerry’s Restaurant parking lot.  Benjamin had left by the time police arrived.  The victim declined hospital treatment for his injury.  He was able to identify Benjamin as the man responsible.

Benjamin was initially picked up by Centralia Police on October 6th and was taken to the Clinton County jail on an outstanding felony warrant.   After pre-trial release on the warrant, Wamac Police picked up Benjamin on Wednesday and transported him to the Marion County Jail to await a final decision on formal charges.
