The Salem City Council Monday night will consider ending its partnership with the YMCA for recreational programs and finalize the sale of the Save-a-Lot building.
City Manager Annette Sola is recommending the city dissolve its agreement signed in 2017 between Gateway Region YMCA and the City of Salem for the pooling of resources in helping with the development of recreation and programs to serve the Salem area. At this time, Sola says both parties have agreed that the cost to continue the agreement is no longer beneficial to either party. The current contract expired in April and since that time there have been a series of meetings and sharing of financial documentation where it was determined to end the agreement. Former YMCA Program Director Jed Casburn has agreed to take over the position of recreation director for the City of Salem. Sola notes he comes with many years of experience and will keep all recreation activities in place moving forward.
The city council will be asked to approve the land sale and redevelopment agreement for the former Save-a-Lot building at 407 West Main Street between the City of Salem and CEPT Properties, LLC and Air Apply LLC. The company will pay the previously agreed amount of $83,475 and will be reimbursed through TIF funds a total of $40,000 in eligible project costs.
The council will be asked to approve emergency repairs up to $300,000 for the sewer main on West Warmouth between College and Ohio Street that has collapsed. Haier Plumbing, which is already on site with the Illinois/Spruce Street sewer main replacement project, has agreed to handle the emergency repair at the same contracted rate as the current sewer replacement job.
The council meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
