The Salem Wildcats found out what the fuss is about as 2nd ranked Breese Central came to Jim Finks Field and rolled on homecoming 49-7. Angel Salgado led the Cats offense as he finished with 5 carries for 73 yards, including a 51 yard run. Marquis Ettress had the only touchdown as the clock was running in the 2nd half after Breese pulled out to a 42-0 lead at the break. Salem turned it over 4 times in the game. Caeden Bevolo 10-of-18 for just 52 yards and 2 interceptions. The Wildcats fall to 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in the Cahokia with their final road trip of the season next week as they head to Columbia before finishing the season at home with games against Freeburg and Charleston.
During halftime, the Homecoming King and Queen were named as they were Cole Wimberly and Keylie Hancock.
Also in the Cahokia last night, Columbia put up 60 in their 60-12 win over Wood River. Roxana held on to beat Freeburg in a defensive battle 12-10.
Also last night, Althoff routed Collinsville 54-14, Cahokia shutout Mount Vernon 28-0, Carlyle was shutout by Chester 41-0, Mattoon won the Coles County Clash over Charleston at EIU 20-17, Nashville beat Benton 27-10, Olney on the road beat Mt Carmel 33-6, Taylorville knocked off visiting Effingham in overtime 42-41, Vandalia knocked off state ranked Greenville 35-34.
