The Salem Township Hospital Board has given the green light to a $17-million expansion and renovation of the emergency room and operating rooms.

Hospital CEO James Timpe says engineering work will begin next month, with actual construction beginning next June or July.

“We’re going to expand from two operating rooms to four operating rooms, which will help build our capacity in that area for the future,” Timpe said. “Our emergency room, which is currently at five beds, will go up to eight. We’re thrilled to see this expansion and offer new spaces to our patients, and of course all the latest systems that we can offer for their needs.”

Timpe says the ER and operating rooms will continue to operate as usual through temporary locations while the work is being completed.  The work is expected to be completed sometime in early 2027.

This is the last phase of a 15-year improvement plan that resulted in renovation to most of the hospital.
