Salem Police arrested a 38-year-old Salem man after he allegedly forced his way into a grandparents home where two of his children had gone to get away from him.

James Phillips of Jeanne Drive is being held in the Marion County Jail for felony criminal trespass to a residence, criminal damage to property and resisting arrest.

Police report the grandparent had told Phillips he was not welcome at the residence and after the door was locked he allegedly broke the door handle to gain access.  Once inside, Phillips was allegedly asked to leave before police arrived.  He then allegedly began fighting officers trying to take him into custody.  Police believe he was intoxicated at the time.

Phillips was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of an earlier injury before being taken to the Marion County Jail.

The incident occurred around 9:30 Tuesday night.
