The Kaskaskia College Board Monday night took the ‘interim’ title off of Sara Hanks position as Vice President of Administrative Services. The board also agreed to advertise for a comptroller to work with Hanks. The board also named Jeff Thomas of Mt. Vernon as Director of Purchasing to replace Craig Roper when he retires.
Earlier in the meeting, Hanks reviewed the college’s proposed budget for the fiscal year that ends June 30th.
“We passed the budget for fiscal year 25. Our economic impact spend is going to be around 56 million dollars,” Hanks said. “We project that we will have nine months’ reserves on the balance sheet as of June 30, 2025.”
For the year, Hanks is projecting a $900,000 deficit but is confident it can be erased as the year progresses. 55-percent of the college’s budget is for salaries. College President George Evans says electric costs are rising, but they have few options because the main campus is served by an electrical cooperative.
The board awarded a bid to Rooters Asphalt for $293,000 to resurface the entire Agriculture parking lot and two strips of resurfacing on the truck driver training parking lot.
The board also awarded a $135,000 bid to KONE of St. Louis to make repairs to the current non-functioning elevator at the John D. Cavaletto Agriculture Center.
