A 23-year-old Effingham woman was formally charged in Marion County Court Monday with aggravated battery and domestic battery in connection with the stabbing of an Alma man at his home early Saturday evening.

Laney Flowers of East 945th Avenue is charged in both counts of stabbing Jaxon Kincaid of the 700 block of Illinois Street with a knife.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies had initially been called to Kincaid’s home for an active domestic dispute.  Upon arrival, they observed three lacerations on Kincaid’s left arm and back.  Flowers had just left the home before their arrival.

Kincaid told deputies he was stabbed after waking up on the living floor from a nap.   He said Flowers indicated she was going to kill him.  Kincaid said he was able to grab her by the hand and throw the knife outside on a chair.

Kincaid was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Judge Mark Stedelin denied a request to hold Laney without bond.  As part of her release, she was ordered to have no contact with Kincaid.

A preliminary hearing was set for October 8th.  A public defender was appointed to represent Flowers.
