Salem Police arrested a 24-year-old Salem man on multiple charges following a series of incidents that eventually led to an injury to a Salem Police Officer who fell into a still hot fire pit during a foot chase.
Wyatt Dailey of East Church was taken to the Marion County Jail for alleged aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint, resisting arrest and aggravated battery to a police officer.
Salem Police say the series of incidents began around seven Wednesday night when they received a call about a woman on the roof of the East Church Street home. After going to the residence, both the woman, identified as Dailey’s girlfriend. and Dailey talked to police.
The alleged female victim said Dailey locked her in an upstairs room and took her phone to keep her from leaving. She was able to gain access to the roof about 30 to 45 minutes later to seek help. The alleged victim also reported that earlier in the day Dailey had allegedly struck her with a baseball bat causing bruises and an open wound. She declined hospital treatment.
As police were beginning to take Dailey into custody, he allegedly took off running. During the foot pursuit one of the Salem Police officers fell into a still hot fire pit and was treated and released for his injuries at Salem Township Hospital.
The other officer continued to give chase that included a swim across Town Creek. Eventually, Dailey tired and sat down at the edge of the woods near Purple Elephant Storage on East Main and was held at taser point until another officer could arrive to take Dailey into custody. Police say at that point Dailey offered no additional resistance and was transported to the Marion County Jail.
