Three Marion County Congregate Care Facilities are on outbreak status for COVID-19 as the virus has made a rebound in South Central Illinois during the past few weeks.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says one Centralia facility has 22 residents and nine staff who are positive.  Another Centralia facility has one resident and seven positive staff.  The third facility is in Salem which has six positive residents and one positive staff.   Two of the facilities will come off outbreak status if they do not have any new cases by early next week.

Meanwhile, Mallow reports there have been no positive mosquitoes, birds, horses or human cases of West Nile Virus so far this summer.  There have been positive non-human samples in several other area counties.   The first death from West Nile Virus was reported this week in Lake County in the Chicago suburbs.

Mallow says use mosquito spray and take other precautions as you go outdoors in the evening to avoid mosquitoes that spread the virus.
