Salem Township Hospital gets update on electronic health record conversion

Salem Township Hospital CEO James Timpe told the hospital board Wednesday afternoon they are on schedule to implement a new electronic health records system next month.

Timpe says there are advantages for patients and doctors.

“We’re only three weeks away from EPIC go-live as of yesterday,” Timpe said. “EPIC is our new electronic health system. We’re actually going to be at the parade in October passing out flyers for people to get signed up to see their own medical records online through EPIC. It’s a great system. It’s the number one system in the country and we’re very lucky as a small hospital to be on it, so we’re looking forward to it.”

The My Chart system will allow patients to see their medical records and tests as well as confirm appointments and pay bills all in the same place.  While patients will have a different My Chart portal for each hospital they have received services, doctors will be able to see medical records from any hospital system utilizing My Chart.

The hospital board got their first look at the plans for the renovation and expansion of the emergency room and operating room.   They will be discussed at the September meeting.
