District Three Marion County Board member Steve Whritenour had earlier decided not to run for re-election, but that has now changed.

The Marion County Republican Central Committee had filled Whritenour’s open position with the appointment of Larry Sill, but now Sill has informed the party for personal reasons he cannot run in November.

Whritenour said he was approached by Republican Party Chair Ben Stratemeier about running for another four-year term, and he agreed.

“Our county has got a lot of very positive things going right now, and I decided to seek another term to see things followed through,” Whritenour said. “Something I’ve been working on for almost two years is the tornado sirens. Getting the Everbridge Nixle program off the ground and running has been great. Now we’re moving on to upgrading our technology with the tornado sirens so it’s a little more 2024 compliant.”

Whritenour also wants to work with the board on making a capital improvement plan part of the yearly budget process so they are not caught by projects that need immediate attention.

Whritenour is currently completing his tenth year on the board.

Stratemeier filed the paperwork Tuesday to change their candidate in District Three after precinct committeemen in the party agreed to have Whritenour fill Sill’s position on the ballot.
