The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees approved a new four-year contract for President George Evans to continue as KC president. Evans says he’s pleased to remain at the helm of the college, and thanked his colleagues for their assistance.
“My heart’s always been at KC, and it’s so good that the board has confidence in me to continue serving our mission and serving the district. I think we’ve done a pretty good job, but I have to give credit to the board but also to my staff. I have a great support crew, and I’m looking forward to the next four years of continuing to make sure that we’re one of the most competitive community colleges in the state of Illinois, from an academic standpoint but also from the student service and employee friendliness aspect.”
The board also approved the hiring of Christopher Hottes as audio-visual technician, Cameron Meredith as buildings and grounds technician, and Alaina Kohnen as Children’s Learning Center teacher. Board members also accepted the retirement of Cheryl Boehne as regional director of education centers, effective December 31.
Also on Monday, KC controller Sara Hanks provided an overview of the school’s tentative Fiscal Year 2025 budget, which contains close to $31.3 million in projected revenue and just over $32 million in expenditures for an estimated deficit of around $746,000. However, college officials note that the tentative budget includes conservative estimates and that the FY 2024 budget was projected to carry a deficit of close to $900,000 but only ended with a shortfall of around $55,000.
