Johanna M. Diekemper, age 98 of Carlyle, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Hickory Estates in Greenville, Illinois.
Johanna was born in Bartelso, Illinois, on January 8, 1927, a daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Wessel) Beckmann. She married Mathias Diekemper on June 2, 1953, at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso, and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2008.
Mrs. Diekemper dedicated her life to caring for her family as a loving homemaker. A faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the St. Ann Altar Sodality, she lived her faith through service and devotion. In her leisure time, she found joy in quilting, reading, and playing cards, activities that reflected her creativity, warmth, and love of companionship.
Johanna is survived by her loving children, Jerry (Debbie) Diekemper, Matt (Betty) Diekemper, Jr.; Rose Haar, Betty Jo (Larry) Beckemeyer, Tammy (Kevin) Timmermann, Steve (Lynn) Diekemper, Ginny (Wayne) Deiters, and Tony (Brenda) Diekemper; 24 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; a sister, Blanche Brueggemann; a brother, Alfred (Helen) Beckmann, and her in-laws, Bernette Beckmann and Marilyn Beckmann.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Elizabeth Beckmann; her mother-and father-in-law, Mathias and Rosa Diekemper; a son-in-law, Roger Haar; her brothers and their spouses, Pete (Virginia) Beckmann, Leo (Leona) Beckmann, Aloys (Margie) Beckmann, Dominic Beckmann, Jerry Beckmann, and Leonard Beckmann; her sisters and their spouses, Mary (Joseph) Mueller, Helen (Louis) Heidenriech and Joe Brueggemann; and her in-laws, Florence and George Kluemke, Annie and Ed Voss, Henry and Bernetta Diekemper, Joe and Lily Diekemper, Ray and Leonilda Diekemper, Bernard Diekemper, Julia Diekemper, and Eleanor Diekemper.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 22, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle with Fr. Steven Paulter, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL, on Friday, August 22, from 8:00 – 10:30 AM.
