The Salem City Council Monday night gave final approval to a 12 year extension of the west side tax increment financing district.   The extension needed approval from the state legislature and the Governor’s approval which have both now been accomplished.  As part of the extension, the city of Salem also agreed to make payments totaling $100,000 to taxing bodies making up the district from existing funds.

The council also approved a zoning change from industrial to multi-family housing for a 2.8 acre tract at the intersection of Lake and Marion that was the location of the former Durham bus garage.   Developer Micah Mulvaney is planning to construct three new homes, a townhouse, and a duplex on the property.  The planning commission earlier approved the change while the county board had approved the subdivision plat.

The board approved the Salem Grace Church utilizing Bryan Memorial Park for worship service and various community events on Sunday, October 20th.
